NGO Registrations for Opportunity Hackathon 2015 - Chennai
PayPal presents to you the PayPal Opportunity Hack 2015, a hackathon event where technologists from Chennai software developer community will come together to solve day-to-day problems faced by non-profit organizations.
We, at PayPal believe in fostering an inclusive economy that empowers the communities in which we live and work. Innovation and technology is core to the DNA of our organization and it is our consistent endeavor to facilitate global growth opportunities to build a better future. As part of our Social Innovation initiatives, we organized the first ever Opportunity Hack last year, that supported multiple NGOs and helped solve many of their problems.
This year, Opportunity Hack will take place on 28- 29 November at PayPal’s Chennai campus. Please refer to the attached document for more details.
What is a Hackathon
A hackathon is an event where computer programmers and people involved in software development come together to collaborate on creating (coding) technology solutions to problems. Some hack events may focus on a specific application (mobile apps, desktop operating system, or web development), programming language, or cause while others may have a completely open format.
How Opportunity Hack 2015 Helps NGOs!
At PayPal’s Opportunity Hack 2015, nonprofit organizations will work with Chennai technologists to find solutions to their day-to-day technical problems. In this open-format event, hackers may use multiple applications or programming languages to develop solutions for your organization. Participating organizations, including nonprofit, small business and government, can be from different backgrounds working for different causes. Our goal is to collaborate with organizations, and create solutions that have a positive impact.
Prizes
Since this is a competition format, the ideas will be judged by a panel of judges.
Winning teams will carry home a prize money of INR 1,20,000 and the winning NGO will be awarded INR 20,000. The team that ends up second will take INR 60,000 and the NGO that comes second will be awarded INR 10,000. This is in addition to follow-on support by PayPal to complete the implementation of the project.
